...if you make more than $50k/year, you are the 1%.

so what's you fucking point ?

I find the disingenous drivel about me being in the 1% completely and utterly disingenous.

I'm not TRYING to kill other people, the real 1% actually are.  I understand that my consumption has an impact. the real 1% don't give a shit.

they think it's perfectly fine to increase their wealth at the expense of lives.

you comparison of somebody in america making 50k/year to a 1% predator is completely offensive.

      1% of 6billion is 60million.

only 60 million people out of the US, canada, europe, japan, etc... make 50k a year ?

      yeah - I doubt it.

and your correcting for purchasing power right ?

because I'm thinking that 50k in Peoria , NYC and bangladesh is probably not all the same 50k

      •  In the US... (0+ / 0-)

...there are probably 50 million people who make more than $50k (from tax return data).

The EU has a population of $500 million, so assuming the same population, between the US and EU figure there are 120 million people or so making over $50k.

After that there isn't a whole lot. If we triple that number to add in contributions from the rest of the world, we get a number that's roughly 360 million, or a little over 5% of the global population of 7 billion.

So ok, fair enough. I forget where I got the statistic from now, but it looks more likely that $50k is top 5% instead of top 1%. Top 1% is probably closer to $80k by the numbers.
