  •  Anecdotally, It's bad in Ohio. (12+ / 0-)

I don't know any numbers, and I'm certainly no lawyer. But I know in Portage County I always hear stories from people who are being snapped up on bullshit warrants in the middle of the night, all because of fines or debts that some judge wanted. I'm sick of picking up otherwise law-abiding friends from jail over this crap.

And I'm sick of people not naming judges. It's Oswick, Pittman, and Fankhauser in my county along with prosecutor Victor Vigilucci. Judges should be held responsible for their actions. The sheriff here (Tea Party "Democrat" Dave Doak) is complicit in rounding up people for these corrupt judges, and it was painful watching the Tea Party campaign for Doak in the primary, and then watching the Portage Democratic  Party campaign for this Tea Partier in the general election with our freaking donations. But I digress. All politics is local.

Anyways, debtors prisons are happening and mainstream Dems either don't see it or choose to look the other way. This is a huge problem that will have big implications in the future. Meanwhile, the prison-industrial complex looks forward to a big payday at the expense of our freedom.

Some would say that I'm off my gourd. I would say that I am a gourd.
