Except for some of the details my dad could be your dad. My dad suffers from extreme insecurity which he covers with boisterous fabcrications of reality. My dad tells the Drs that he sees that he was a medic in the military so is familiar with the treatments he is enduring. Not so, plus that was well over 30 yrs ago. My sister, mom and I were subject to his tyrannical ways that resulted in violent outbursts both verbal and physical. To this day at the age of 82 he denies that he was ever mean to any of us and does not understand why he does not get the love and respect that he wants. My dad too is a right wing nutcase that refuses to believe the truth about the politicians he loves (Reagan). He is a fan of hate radio and if here were not so cheap he would be watching False News all day long but he refuses to pay for it. My dad will be turning 82 next month. He has mellowed some since being diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer but still suffers from illusion of grandeur.

growing up, that insecurity was the root of paranoia. On the other, maybe it was better that I didn't: it would have been one more reason to keep forgiving his abuse and remaining vulnerable to it in the absence of any hope for an apology.
