    and complicated. Since the election of PBO, the racist element has made itself pretty apparent. But simple racism is not always the motive force.

    The diarist has shed some light on the conservative "character-type" that requires some external factor to blame for deeply-held feelings of inadequacy. We can make use of this (in an effective compassionate, way I hope) when we cross paths with a TeaPuppet.  Steering the conversation away from "big government, etc." toward their personal misfortunes might be fruitful.

    Novelist Kim Stanley Robinson suggested that your childhood is more than the experience of your youth. It's also the opinions you form about it later.

    The diarist seems to be aware of this, and I wish her continued success in coming to terms with her past.
