    It's a cut for current recipients in future years. The amount I receive presently will not be reduced. Reduced = Cut. However, in future years the percentage of increase (COLA) will be smaller than what it would be if it were calculated as it is now. And over time the lesser amount will be compounded. Additionally, during the time I've received Social Security there were two consecutive years without any COLA. It was based on the CPI.

    Your story about oreos is fun for a 5 year old. To an adult with a degree in finance it's unnecessarily condescending. Note: this discussion has nothing to do with purchasing power, as the CPI already considers inflation.
