    I read a book about how Hitler wanted Paris to be blown up, too, and the man in charge refused.  

    I also watched the movie The Train with Burt Lancaster where people were tied to the rail cars carrying art so the partisans would not stop it.  I am not sure if that was true.

      There was an art train, but it was put on a siding after some work by the French Resistance.  I don't think anybody was tied to the rails or cars.  It just got waylaid-- So many people and things being sent from France to Germany all at once.

      A woman who worked for the Louvre and the subsidiary in the Tuilleries named Rose Valland documented the works that were stolen (as did the Nazis, who meticulously kept records).  She told her boss, the head of the Louvre, and he in turn, informed the Resistance of the train and its whereabouts.
