  •  There's been talk of a Social Security "Part B" (17+ / 0-)

    that would give all seniors a flat $16k or so a year on TOP of what they're already getting now. Very little chance this could pass today, but the fact that it's even getting any beltway discussion means that something approaching this could happen someday, perhaps sooner than we think. The money would have to come from a combination of tax rate increases and cuts in tax breaks and unnecessary spending, but all it would basically be is a huge stimulus targeted at a group of people who tend to spend their income because they have to. Not many people are saving money in their 70's and beyond. This could actually pay for itself, albeit in a socialist wealth-redistributing way.

    And what on earth could be wrong with that, especially since it's sure to piss off the likes of Lloyd Blankfein, David Brooks and Ed Rendell.
