  •  Explosives were controlled once.... (6+ / 0-)

    ...upon a time.

Dynamite was easily purchased at the local hardware stores until it was realized that it was sort of dangerous. You can still buy it if you're willing to get your credentials in order.

Guns will be in the same category here one day. I wonder what the score is...gus vs. dynamite?

I believe a sternly worded letter just might be in order here.

    •  National Firearms Act of 1934 outlawed full-auto (8+ / 0-)

weapons. Wanna guess how many people have been murdered with machine guns in the U.S. since then?

With statistical significance? Zero. But that doesn't seem to turn a light bulb on for Joe Gun Nut and his buddies.

Reaganomics noun pl: belief that government is bad, that it can increase revenue by decreasing revenue, and unregulated capitalism can provide unlimited goods for unlimited people on a planet with finite resources.

....a video a couple of years ago of a young kid, maybe seven years old?, shooting an uzi maybe? It recoiled up and shot him in the face multiple times. Full autos are not "outlawed", just kinda more tightly controlled.....theoretically

the kid was not "murdered" per se, but...

      •  Not outlawed, just registered and taxed. (0+ / 0-)

IIRC, Mike Dillon even owns a Hughes helicopter with a GE minigun legally mounted on it.

Pay a $200 transfer tax and (depending upon state and local laws, as it may be illegal where you live) pass a Federal background check, and you can legally own one of the 200,000 or so civilian full-auto weapons in circulation.

I'd buy now though, as the number has been frozen since May 1986, and prices are going nowhere but up.

      •  Yes, but they are not next to the sparklers (3+ / 0-)

at the Quickie Mart anymore.  There are always kids that have quarter sticks, but there are always only 1 or 2, instead of 7 or 8...keeps the probabiliyt of someone getting hurt a little lower.

Same with guns.  When you hafta work at it to get one, fewer will bother, bringing the stasticial probability of injury and death down overall.

Listening to the NRA on school safety is like listening to the tobacco companies on cigarette safety. (h/t nightsweat)
