  •  By the way, I went to a candidate forum (7+ / 0-)

for LGBT voters in Erie, PA, this evening.  This is in anticipation of the primaries that will be happening next month.  Out of about a dozen candidates present, there was exactly one Republican.  At least there was one.

There were a total of five challengers for the 2nd District for Erie County Council.  The race is not relevant to me because I don't live in that district.  They are challenging long-time incumbent Joe Giles, whom I have featured in a past diary.  There are some good reasons to want to knock Giles out of his seat (e. g. he refused to support the establishment of a community college in Erie, something which is sorely needed.  A number of state politicians went out on a limb in that initiative only to have it fail.)  However, you don't defeat a fairly popular incumbent in a primary with seven (or four) dwarves!  Everybody has to pool their energy and get behind one particular candidate in order to defeat the incumbent.  I know nothing about politics, but I know this much.  Apparently, the challengers know even less.
