I live in a very conservative area and know lots of intelligent, good people who are Republican.  I also know more than a few libertarians (and unfortunately very few Democrats).

I always find it interesting to ask what it is about the Republican Party that attracts them.  More often than not, it is not why they like the Republicans but why they do not like the Democrats.  More and more often when I ask democrats, I hear the same thing.  Libertarians seem to be the only party I talk to that are actually voting for someone.

I have to admit that I have been voting against Republicans for too long.  I want to vote for someone.  Besides Elizabeth Warren, I cannot think of one person out there who I could actually be excited to vote for.

What do we have to do to get a candidate who actually wants to reign in corporate oligarchy and actually represent the vast majority of this country's citizens?

The solutions are out there and they are really not the hard or expensive to implement.  It just involves biting the hands that are currently feeding these politicians and it doesn't look like that will be happening any time soon.

    •  We can get that candidate; we can't get him (4+ / 0-)

through to being elected. Dean was that candidate, which is massively ironic since I believe his family is the Dean Witter people. But it was true. Elizabeth Warren could be that candidate. But here's the thing--what happens to that candidate if s/he does win and is sent into the lions' den essentially alone?

if necessary for years; if necessary, alone
