  •  I want to share two books that answer the question (3+ / 0-)

"What do I do with a book so horrid I'd feel bad passing it on to anyone?" The books are: Playing with Books: The Art of Upcycling, Deconstructing, and Reimagining the Book, by Jason Thompson and The Repurposed Library: 33 Craft Projects that Give Old Books New Life, by Lisa Occhipinti.

Plus there's a whole bunch of books about making art using old books.  You use paint, stamping, ephemera, decoupage, glue pages together, or hollow out a section and put a secret drawer in place that can even be pulled out...whatever you can imagine. I love this kind of stuff because there's no wrong way to do it.  Put on the music you love and dive in.

If none of the above appeals, you can always stack the never-to-be-opened-again books in two level piles, put a board across the top, and voilá! A bookshelf. :)

Thanks, Diana in NoVa, for another excellent diary. (Thanks esp. for sparing us the grieviously horrific descriptions.)

where they have old books used as decoration, I end up seeing some fascinating volume I have to skim through and I wish was for sale.

And it almost seems sacrilege to entomb the words of a book under paint and decoupage ... Reminiscent of the Chinese displays of plasticized (one assumes) prisoners.

On the other hand, what else can reasonably be done to the works of Limbaugh and Coulter?  It beats reading them.
