  •  Pretty lame attack on the President, IMO. (1+ / 0-)

In my state we have the lottery to pay for all sorts of things, which encourages (mostly the poor) to gamble.  Pays for education, mostly.

We also have cigarette tax.  We have soda tax.  Etc.  Pays for stadiums, mass transit, etc.  And it's great.  People are going to do those things, may as well collect some money from that activity and use it to do something productive, something good for the society.  If people stop doing those things, then we'll make adjustments to get the money through other means.

But I have a problem with this attack on the President: He can't say that his pre-k plan is "for the children."  If it's not for the children, then whom, pray tell, is it for?  I want to hear your theory.  If the President isn't proposing this Pre-K plan "for the children", then what is the REAL reason he's proposing it?  (This ought to be good!)

"If people stop doing those things, then we'll make adjustments to get the money through other means."

Oh really?  If politicians can't muster up the courage to "get the money through other means" today, then why on Earth would we think they'd find that courage tomorrow?  Bottom line:  every government program bankrolled by predatory sin taxes will either be bought and paid for by blood money if the revenue is sufficient....or will go unfunded and needlessly add to the deficit if the revenue is insufficient as it almost always is.  Paying for everything with a funding source that necessarily yields diminishing returns is a ticking time bomb....budgetary malpractice as bad as anything we saw under Bush.
