  •  Yes, I agree. I hate it, but I agree. (5+ / 0-)

The 99% can do great things, human history has shown that. But the 99%'s primary tool and weapon is numbers. And it takes a lot of time to organize tens or hundreds of millions of people to move together. We don't have the time. I'm going to keep organizing anyway, but it's really in the hands of the billionaires now. And frankly, every multi-millionaire and billionaire who doesn't sit on the board of a fossil fuel company and/or get his/her money directly from that industry, should be on our side.  They're the ones getting the best rides, they're the ones having the best lives. If it's their planet, why do they want it trashed?

ces to them personally, and they are insulated by wealth from the effects and can choose their living spaces from the remaining "comfort zones." There's no retribution, no possible restitution, and for people already "acclimated" to taking whatever is not nailed down, suckering the rest of us into consumption and "growth" as the model for all time, with the knowledge that they will get to live and die in massive comfort and pleasure, why the hell should they give a crap?

It's a very old set of behaviors -- the stakes for the rest of us have just gotten a lot higher.

      •  they won't be able to stay insulated forever (4+ / 0-)

not unless they've mastered FTL drive and have a Star Trek-style spaceship to fly away in when the planet becomes uninhabitable in about 80 years.

Absent that technology, all they're buying for themselves is the right to die last, as I've said elsewhere. It's still suicide.
