     He actually does have his own code of honor---and---in his own way--- he IS faithful to that code.

      There's so many characters in those books who bemoan that there are "no true knights".  Yet when they're actually confronted by two people in Jamie and Breanne, who, for better or worse embody that ideal, they regard them with suspicion and distaste.  Jamie is mocked and hated, while Breanne is regarded as some kind of freak.

      The best thing about Martin in that he really does write quite complex characters with rich internal lives. Even the real villains like Cersei have motivations that are comprehensible.  They're not just evil.
