  •  I was stopped driving through AZ to CA (6+ / 0-)

As an expat living in Mexico, I regularly head back home to California.  I used to drive up to Nogales and then on to California taking the Phoenix bypass.  I am a big fan of some popular teams here (Chivas y Venados) and have my truck tagged appropriately although it is California licensed.

The last time I was in AZ, which was just before 1070 passed, I was stopped by some sheriffs of Maricopa county.  They kept me at the side of the road for over an hour waiting for a drug sniffing dog.  One deputy admitted that they thought I was a Mexican.  I am of Scottish heritage so I am whiter than Casper.  The reason for pulling me over was for a license plate light out and I received a fix-it ticket.  When I reached California and went to replace the light, I found I had two and only one was out.  I was pissed for many reasons.

But when 1070 passed, I decided that I would not drive through AZ as long as 1070 exists and/or Arpaio is Sheriff.  I now drive up through Mexicali and have never looked back.  When I speak with people along the border and many say that they avoid AZ.
