  •  Carlos is a wonderful person (13+ / 0-)

We brought him and his wife Melida to speak at DemocracyFest in San Diego and again in Manchester, NH, where he got to meet Howard Dean. They are the nicest, most kind-hearted people you could meet. It does not surprise me in the least that Carlos stepped in at the moment of need.

He currently works as a volunteer for the Red Cross in Boston, which has given him the training to know exactly what to do. He tore apart the sweater a woman offered, to create tourniquets. Between that and his efforts to remove the barricades out of the way of the emergency workers helped save many lives.

He and Melida are still in shock today - they were directly across the street from the first blast, and their lives over the past decade have been filled with more trauma than most of us will ever experience. Heartbreakingly, Carlos says he would rather have his sons back than be called a hero.
