    my recurring thought was- what is different about the marathon this year that would cause someone to take such an action.

    It was highly publicized that the Newtown families would be there and that the last mile would be dedicated to them.
    Their faces in front of the gun control legislation in Connecticut and in Congress made them a focal point in the debate.

    The sick feeling i have is that this fact pushed some anti-gun control loon over the edge.

    We have devolved politically beyond the point of redemption if this turns out to be the case.

      to the area where the Newtown families were viewing. Also, iirc the last mile of the marathon was dedicated to the Sandy Hook victims.

      don't know if there's a connection, but I am seeing tweets just now that FBI investigators have not found any evidence of AQ or other foreign involvement.

      Homegrown domestic terrorists, or deranged loner - which will it be?
