    ...Thomas doesn't believe in oral arguments at the Supreme Court and that's why he doesn't ask questions.

    I don't know that oral arguments at the Supreme Court do make a lot of sense. Points of law rather than facts are being decided, all parties have ample opportunity to make their arguments in writing, and generally they are dealing with an appeal from lower courts so there's a record from those courts. The justices and their staffs should be competent and able to understand the case from the written documents and make a decision.

    Why does it matter if Thomas asks questions or not? Many of the questions asked are just one Justice or the other grandstanding.

    If oral arguments are so necessary, why are the vast majority of cases limited to the very same duration of argument? Surely, that would be an odd coincidence that over 95% (?) of the cases require exactly the same length of oral arguments.
