  •  This is how Reagan Democrats were created (4+ / 0-)

This is like forced busing when the elites sent their kids to private schools (like the Clintons and Obamas for that matter) and working class kids in marginal public schools got bused into horrific schools.  The elites who were not impacted were delighted that they had forced the middle class slobs to sacrifice.  Well the middle class slobs stopped voting for Democrats.

The elites are held harmless.  For the most part they were exempted from income  tax increases, all but the top 2% or so.  Most of the wealthy and upper upper middle class are doing just fine.

But the middle class and particularly the lower end of the middle class, those folks who work hard, work long hours, work more than one job, just to keep themselves in the middle class -- these people are being screwed.

And it isn't going to stop with Social Security.  They will increasingly be means tested on Medicare.

    •  No. Reagan Democrats chose racism over class. (0+ / 0-)

I supportedf integration.  My daughter attended integrated schools.  My suburb has about 15% African Americans and 10% more from a voluntary busing plan from the city.

I have no sympathy toward Reagan Democrats.

      •  Was your daughter a child who got bussed some (0+ / 0-)

Ninety minutes one way, and then another Ninety minutes coming home? Some of the white kids in lower middle class areas inside San Francisco suffered that fate. While kids with darker skin tones suffered that fate in reverse. For some reason, the school system in SF simply could not achieve integration without doing this kind of insane crap.

I thought the poster you replied to was making a very good point. The elite of both parties love to come up with these idealistic solutions to problems, while they remain immune to those solutions. Meanwhile only those lucky enough to have a nice place in the suburbs see any benefits that don't cause out and out pain. (I admit my household had that kind of luck. My son attended fully integrated schools, but never had to be bussed anywhere.)

Offer your heart some Joy every day of your life, and spread it along to others.
