  •  TFA is hyped, in insultingly romantic terms. (4+ / 0-)

Many school districts will deal only with applicants from TFA. Literally, the only way these places will consider hiring you is if you're through TFA. TFA itself admits only admit about 10% of applicants, because they only want "the best and brightest," don'cha know. You slacked off in college? You're an older applicant, and you slacked off SINCE college? Feh. Don't even bother; we only take the best and most promising :) We're gonna run ya' till you drop. And you better believe those lazy, tired veteran teachers will have nothing on YOU sexy little hotshots...

For all that, TFA turns around and it pulls shit like this. What, new teachers in the pipeline are just so idealistic, they don't even notice the abusive, duplicitous, hypocritical bureaucracy above them?

TFA (and the "education reform" of which it's a part) will only be able to keep up the charade for so long. Then nobody will go into teaching, at all. Why bother?

It's here they got the range/ and the machinery for change/ and it's here they got the spiritual thirst. --Leonard Cohen
