    with two co-workers. One is past retirement age but still working because she wants to and one who is just a couple of years shy of retirement.

    They both are Democrats whose income is significantly less than $100,000/year and more informed than your average citizen - read the local paper daily and scattered readings of national press. But they don't blog.

    When I asked them what they'd heard about chained cpi, they hadn't heard much of anything - maybe a vague reference in an article about Obama's budget. And when I told them about it - they weren't very concerned.

    These polling results don't surprise me. But I'm also pretty sure they don't tell us much.

      A lot of people rely on a pension, not SS.

      Most pensions are tied to a certain percentage of one's last salary, and that is the amount you get each month.

      Pensions almost always have COLAS. So while what is received each month does not decrease, some years it remains the same, and some years the pensioners get a bit more.

      So to some retirees who have been living with COLA and who have had to adjust how they live, this is not new.
