If you mean sold it in a private sale to a guy that "Looked OK" without a background check, or any other precaution...

Then Yeah, I think that I'd be fine with somebody getting in a bit of hot water for that.

I don't blame Christians. I blame Stupid. Which sadly is a much more popular religion these days.

    •  You can't tell me (10+ / 0-)

that "Chuck" from "Chuck's Gun Shop" in Riverdale, IL doesn't realize that he is selling his products to gangbangers on a regular basis when 20% of the guns used in Chicago gang crime (and subsequently confiscated) since 2008 came from his store.  But the ATF and other law enforcement outfits have been neutered by the US Congress, bought and paid for by the N.R.A.

    •  If they followed the laws that exist, even though (0+ / 0-)

most of us here want them much stricter, I too would have a problem with that lawsuit.  If the law says you don't have to conduct a background check and you don't know the person has a reason they wouldn't pass it (e.g. you know this person has a restraining order against them or you know they did prison time), then you're perfectly legal to sell them a gun at this point so long as you don't do it from a federally licensed gun dealer.

If it were me, I'd definitely have them sign the name on an ID that they were buying it, the cost and the date just in case the gun ever was used in a crime and the law came back to ask me about it, but that's not required.
