    those horrendous windstorms would do something really destructive like that. Heartbreaking for the parents, too late to start again. The article states that the tree was weakened by an English ivy infestation. A vivid example of the damage caused by invasives.

    Old nests become fragile. That may be why the Decorah eagles built a new nest this year, even though it looks small, considering how big the chicks get by the time they are fledging. Three full size eaglets "wingersizing" uses a lot of area. But they are experienced parents so I guess we should assume they know what they are doing. The old nest was so big there was a question whether it might fall because of its weight.

    But I'm SO GLAD to hear your eagles are active and busy. Two eagles coming and going has to be noisy, in a good way. Keep us posted, as the season progresses.
