  •  We? (4+ / 0-)
We have declared wars of desire and convenience as it suits us, torturing with impunity, killing without trial; we have become the oppressor we abhor.
No. In our name, they have done those foul deeds. Until recently, they have at least taken the trouble to manufacture consent, with lies and distortions. But more and more it seems they hardly even bother with that.

Given the trajectory, it looks as though soon there won't be a there there, to justify the use of 'we'.  History tells us what happens next.

Some, with bloodlust and stupidity, look forward to that. Sensible people view the prospect with horror. I'm yet to see a convincing strategy for avoiding it.

    •  In our name, I agree (4+ / 0-)

Only crazy people are looking forward to the inevitable violent conflict., thinking it'll be like a video game they can quit when the get hungry. And having all the horror in the world at something happening doesn't do much good once it happens.
History has declared what is going to happen to the United States of America. The misgovernment and general public discontent we see today is also part of the script from history. You don't think an armed uprising, or a civil war, or a bloody battle of one part of society against another could ever happen here? Do you know history  at ALL? Roman Empire, French Revolution, the end of apatheid South Africa, Syria and other Middle Eastern countries today?
The Syrian dictatorship has the military services, the secret police, unlimited Iranian and Russian backing, and incredibly destructive weaponry. Yet the general population of poorly-armed people is kicking its ass.
Don't put supreme faith in the power and security of the American military/police forces. There is no guarantee they will blindly support a cruel, uncaring government against its own people.
There is a violent revolution in America's future. That is a certainty. The only unknown is when it  will happen.

Because you seem to be arguing with someone, but everything you've written agrees with what I wrote.

We may have to disagree to agree.

      •  Apologies to all for going off topic here (0+ / 0-)

but it needs to be pointed out that the bold print part of this comment is either pure propaganda or a near complete ignorance of the facts.
