  •  We are all pro oil by actions and/or necessity. (0+ / 0-)

I have yet to come across anyone in this country that doesn't use some oil-related product(s). If you live in a developed country, you are pro oil.

We eat it, drive on it, wear it, take it, and more. We've built an entire economy on it. We are all pro oil. Let's not be hypocrites as we are all compromised.

That said, he has stated support for coal in the past.

    •  Maybe I should have said "pro-oil company" instead (0+ / 0-)

When I speak of pro-oil, I mean "in favor of the expansion of oil drilling and exploration through the creation of new pipelines, the opening up of more public lands, etc., and the  provision of tax breaks, credits, and subsidies to the oil industry"

I don't agree with your claim that we are all "pro-oil" simply because of its omnipresence in our society.  That argument is like saying someone is pro-war because they pay taxes.

      •  I think pro oil is meaningless is our economy (0+ / 0-)

I gave my reasons for saying so. You don't agree? That's fine. Don't get mad because I disagreed with you.

Though I wish to immediately transition to cleaner fuels, I harbor no illusions about how entrenched oil is to modern developed economies and how difficult and expensive that transition is going to be. I think it is incumbent upon those of us who give a damn about the climate to start putting forth concrete plans about costs and changes to some folks' quality of life.

If you use the products, it is damn hard to say that you are supporting those companies that produce those products. We are all part of the demand for those products.Doesn't mean you endorse everything about those companies, but you can't claim to be above it all. We are all in the fossil fuel muck and some us don't pretend otherwise.

        •  modern developed economies (0+ / 0-)

are the whole problem here. Their interests are not our country's interest on any level local, state or federal. The whole problem is in the 'developed economies' your speaking of. With development like this we are facing a nightmare both environmental and economic. You fail to recognize in every way what we we face. What we are losing in no way outweighs what we are as humans losing from our civil/human rights to the very system that sustains us.

There is no reason we all need to be in this fossil fuel muck other then the refusal to let go of the grease extractors. There is also no reason to be in debt to the point where we kill any economics that allow people to live decently and to rape the earth all for the profit of the pillagers who own the place. Let go of your concept of greed is the way forward and adjust like you tell me to do. The dinosaurs are long gone they fell like anything that is too big does. Dead dinosaur's grease is not the only solution nor is the TBTF failed globally economy any kind of inevitable reality.
