  •  It's true (7+ / 0-)

    See here.

Short version - he lost to Sec. Lloyd Bentsen in the 1976 primary (I was working in Waco for Bentsen), then won the Rep. seat for TX 6th District in 1978 and again in 1980 and 1982 - as a Democrat.

After he was kicked out of the House Budget committee, he resigned his seat in Jan. 1983 and then ran as Republican for his own vacancy.

And that how the GOP version Gramm was born.

    The truth always matters.

    •  no, no, no, no. He called himself a Dem (6+ / 0-)

when that was convenient in the district where he ran. He turned around and ran again as a GOP candidate after acting like a Rethug from Day One. Changed parties out in front of God and everybody. I know. I lived in Texas then, too. I remember -- he's a carpetbagging Missourian who taught economics at TAMU. He was, is, and always will be a jerk. Somebody in another thread today said "economists = astrologers". That's not cutting astrologers enough credit.

I saw Chuck Norris live at Lackland when I was a teenage enlisted airman. I'm not blond. I'm not male. He's taller than me and way more limber too.

LBJ, Lady Bird, Van Cliburn, Ike, Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan, Molly Ivins, Sully Sullenburger, Drew Brees: Texas is NO Bush League!
