    ... not to kill people, right after they get back from volunteering at the ecology club and mowing the elderly lady's lawn across the street.

      Killing is but unless you are told to by a higher authority, or enter your home without permission, or are out at night and someone scares you.

      Bullying is bad unless the person does not agree with you beliefs, your politics, has the wrong haircut, wears the wrong clothes, looks different, or gets in your way.

      As implied, the problem is not that the average kid does not know killing is wrong.  It is that for some kids killing is not only an acceptable but necessary method to solve problems.  I am sure that these kids were told killing is wrong, but were mostly told how heroic people who kill other people are.
