  •  2010 was the Republican wave midterm across the (15+ / 0-)

nation. So, yes, he won 55% in the wave year, but the election before (2006) he won 39% to be reelected governor.  In my mind, no election should be awarded with less than 50% of the vote received. Runoffs should be mandatory, but that's just my opinion, which counts for little.

In 2010, Kathie Glass & Deb Shafto were virtually unknown. Libertarian Glass got just over 2% and Independent Shafto didn't even get 1/2%.

Democrat Bill White got a very respectable 42% in Texas in the Tea Bag Wave year and did it without a very organized statewide Democratic Party too.

In fact, that's Texas' current biggest problem:  the lack of strong statewide Democratic organization.

Neighborhoods in cities where there had never been Democratic signs before had Bill White yard signs because people were so sick of Perry.   But the Tea Wave outnumbered everyone against Perry.

Perry has also bought his way into office, receiving over $102 million in contributions, and over $50 million of that comes from only 200 contributors (avg contribution $250,000 each).

He's been governor now for 13 years.... 13 long painful and annoying years.
