    Proto-Indo-European emerged in the Caucasus. Most believe it emerged in the Kurgan Culture of the Pontic-Caspian steppe.

    There are a few linguists who argue that some Caucasus languages resemble Proto-Indo-European, but they are talking about four or five languages of the Northwest Caucasus-- Abkhazian, Adygei, Kabardan, etc. Chechen and Ingushetian are not in this group.
