      It doesn't call for guaranteed suicide mission absent any chance of useful results.  There has been talk of the guy having a suicide vest. What point in "rushing him" if there's a probability he'll blow himself up, and you along with it?

          Fortunately in this instance it has turned out to not be a consideration.

            no order was necessary here, but in war or when an officer is in the middle of a chase, such orders are given and those involved do their best.  And those who are to follow the orders don't have the opportunity to say "hmmm...is this really gonna work?"

          Luckily the people giving the orders in this case were calculated and smart - not headstrong in giving such orders. Patience paid off. Truly Boston's finest.
