      in these kind of situations.  Unlike, say, Wikipedia (which still has its own issues), Twitter and similar microblogs really have none of the indicia of reliability in these kinds of fast-moving situations where local "civilians" don't have more info than the press.  Here, the mainstream broadcast/print media has closer access to local law enforcement than some random schmuck on his phone does.

      Twitter is good in weather/natural disaster events, where you have folks who have sheltered in place in areas where most news media have evacuated, particularly if they are still able to access cell networks.  But that's about the only time I'll give much credence to a random Twitter feed.
