  •  One roadblock to change: median GOP voter age (8+ / 0-)

Assuming they have kids, they're grown up and living elsewhere.

Not saying they don't care about first graders... but that median Republican voter doesn't have any.

I think it's getting closer to the Northern Ireland scenario.

We may have to write off the older generation of GOP and work with the younger ones.  The older generation is already losing numbers and influence.

The final catalyst for resolving the Irish struggle, at least resolving it to the current level, seemed to be the committed involvement of Irish mothers.  There were also some quite interesting programs that tried to get Irish youth out of Ireland for a period of time and expose them to other communities in the US and elsewhere.  It seemed to be an attempt to reset their sense of normalcy.  I don't know what impact it had, but I recall at the time thinking it was a worthwhile idea.

I think the disappointment over the recent failure of gun control legislation is understandable but unjustified.  In the past, when the gun enablers won the first round after a tragedy, people lost interest in fighting and gave up.

I sense that it's different this time.  In fact, I think the failure may even strengthen the movement.  For the first time that I can remember, there is a visible disconnect between the politicians and their constituents.  I'm hopeful...
