I grew up in Wisconsin where the only darker skinned people were American Indian. I saw similar behavior and attitudes, but I didn't really get it until I read BLACK LIKE ME. That was a real eye-opener. I started looking around and didn't like what I saw. This was in the 60's during the civil rights movement. Things are better now(correct me if I'm wrong), but there is still a lot of what I characterize as Jim Crow going on. Sexism is also a real issue. I'm an old lady now and disabled, which is also an issue, and I just want to rage sometimes; but raging is counter-productive. We must remember we are ALL God's children and loved, and deserve to be treated with respect.
