    the sorrow and grief yet.

I grew up with horses, too. Didn't know until today that someone had been killed trying to get horses to safety. Much is still coming out about this terrible event in little dribbles. As a Gulf Watcher, I expect we'll still be hearing details for awhile; I did hear tonight on the local news that the locus of the explosion has been identified. The investigator didn't say what it was, just that they'd found it to the satisfaction of the experts sent to look. As a former TEEX instructor, who taught ICS for members of volunteer fire departments in '06 and '07, and who has kin in a VFD in a town about half as big as West, I'm not mad yet. I'm still mourning.

I know many first responders in the community as around here, if volunteer organizations do not provide a service, it is not provided.  It is the same way that most of the guys are in the NG so the change in policy regarding foreign deployment of the NG hit here locally harder than it would other places I think.

Most guys were in NG for the extra money; they could work their jobs or farm or both and still have a steady extra cash flow.  Upshot is almost all NG members around here have had multiple deployments and several around here have died.  I am reminded of VN where, even with the draft, not so many locals were deployed at one time
