I couldn't really find a find a better phrase for it at the time; should have chose words more carefully.

But there are unfortunately two increasingly distinct sides here. One that tends to criticize police and one that tends to defend them. The words exchanged between the two groups have become increasingly nasty. This community has become increasingly polarized.

Comparing people to rightwingers over this is just uncalled for IMO. Even worse, in the diary by that climateguy, one person in the pro-police group was comparing people to Westboro Baptist. You know, the "God hates f**s" people. He was comparing Daily Kos users to them.

This is really getting out of control.

Some would say that I'm off my gourd. I would say that I am a gourd.

to wingers. I was comparing the language used. I have been seeing a lot of bullshit from people on this too. And this is one of tthose places where "both sides do it" actuall does apply.

For me I defend cops when they deserve it and call them out when they deserve that. But every time we use a loaded term to describe them or the state of our country we lose credibility just like the right does when they attack President Obama as a fascist or communist.

Most of the people taking a hard line against us are firmly convinced that they are the last defenders of civilization... The last stronghold of mother, God, home and apple pie and they're full of shit! David Crosby, Journey Thru the Past.

Obama is nothing like a fascist or a communist, whereas our system most certainly shares a great number of features with police states. It might be hyperbole, but it isn't made up whole cloth. We have 25% of the world's prisoners in the US. That doesn't jibe with being a free country.
