  •  I don't understand why they did this (5+ / 0-)

I mean, they've already taken all the flak that they're going to take for this (which is not much, people already knew that they it was a blatant gerrymander and most people don't care about / understand redistricting), so why expose themselves to potential legal problems for obstruction of justice? It's not like there could be anything in there that could effect the legality of the maps, a judge already ruled that the odd / even disfranchisement thing was basically legal and ordered them to correct the Hispanic VRA districts.

    •  Good question (2+ / 0-)

It sort of suggests - to me, at least - that the way they went about gerrymandering the state are more distasteful than we might have imagined.

      •  I just literally can't imagine (0+ / 0-)

what could be in there that would be either so distasteful so as to raise this story above the level of inside baseball or to persuade a court that the map is illegal. If anything, deleting the files has kept this story in the news longer.

They used actual racial slurs, perhaps in the context of packing the black districts in SE WI.

But I have a lot of trouble believing they'd actually be THAT stupid. I mean, I don't doubt that there are plenty of bonofide racists in the professional world, especially in the world of Republican politics, but you'd think they'd know better than to commit it to writing.
