    Not only did it give us the Great Depression, but numerous prior panics and depressions going back into the early 19th century.

    Unregulated markets give us inevitable cycles of short booms followed by incredibly devastating busts. It's an undeniable fact of history

    Reforms were instituted after the Great Depression to finally break that pattern for a while, but sadly that old lesson of history was forgotten.

    One wonders if we are in the process of repeating what occurred from 1873-96, where one free market triggered economic calamity followed another,  giving rise to what was later dubbed the Long Depression.
