    ...did a radio concert many years ago.

    It was a disaster; the worst performance of my entire professional career, by a huge margin.  Every single tune had a different sort of trainwreck.  Strings broke, entrances were missed, repeats were forgotten, lyrics mangled, harmonies shifted up a fourth without warning, countoffs were too fast or too slow.  On the solemn shapenote hymn, the lead singer and I got the giggles.

    We finally finished our clusterfuck of a set and slumped in our chairs to begin the postmortem.  "Thank god that's over!"  "I can't believe we screwed up __."  "What a nightmare!"  "I think we were in two different keys on _____." And on and on.

    I looked up.  The broadcast engineer was signalling frantically to me: our mics were still live, and our radio audience had been given an unusual perspective on a band's worst night ever.

    Freedom isn't "on the march." Freedom dances.
