the President almost guarantee that the House will stay Republican in 2014 as progressives again suffer from the "enthusiasm gap" that first showed up in 2010.  It is hard to get party activists fired up to walk through walls for Congressional candidates when the President calls for the repudiation of what progressives think of as a core party principle.

The electorate does not want a "grand bargain" in the way that it is being presented.  Polling shows that they want the wealthy to pay more (Mitt Romney paying 15% is clearly unacceptable).

The more that the triangulatory wing of the Democratic Party tries to suppress the "fucking retards" that Rahm is so fond of bashing, the less enthusiasm will be exhibited for pushing for a Congressional victory in 2014.
