  •  She may live in their former beachfront residence (4+ / 0-)

on Sullivan's Island (one of the wealthiest zip codes in the nation) but so be it - it has been hers since the divorce and Mark has had a trespass notice served on him and filed with the Sullivan's Island PD for at least two years.

Mark and Jenny are both insufferable souls (two truly bad people who very much deserved to be married to each other).  But Jenny is clearly the more intelligent and less narcissistic of the two (which ain't saying much I will grant you).  Neither is from around here (He is from Boca Raton, she is from Chicago - they met on Wall Street as traders in the 80s).  They have spent the last 20 years insulting the intelligence and sensibilities of folks who are from here.  MUCH of their support has traditionally come from "damn Yankees" from places like Wild Dunes, Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island, and of course Hilton Head.

One thing Colbert-Busch has going for her is that - although her family is originally from St. Louis - she is more assimilated into the Lowcountry society than the Sanfords. Elizabeth's father was a well-respected doctor at the Medical University who died tragically in a well-known airline crash in Charlotte that killed a number of Charlestonians.  She and her kid brother Stephen went to all the right schools and both married into powerful blue-blood Charleston families - although Elizabeth's ex-husband turned out to be quite a scoundrel (think Rhett Butler with half the charm).  A lot of Charlestonians are upset about the role of labor unions and National Democrats like Debbie Wasserman-Schmidt in Elizabeth's campaign but they would rather stomach all of that than continue to be embarrassed by Mark and Jenny...
