My list of books with animals:

The Shy Stegasaurus of Cricket Creek--the dinosaur lived in Eastern Oregon when I was a child.

Henry and Ribsy by Beverly Cleary.  The kids and the dog lived in my aunt's neighborhood in Portland, OR

The Island of the Blue Dolphins--I loved the idea of making a skirt out of cormorant feathers.

The Wind in the Willows, though I thought the characters were too idiosyncratic.

Richard Haliburton's telling of Hannibal crossing the Alps on elephants.

But I will never forget reading Black Beauty when I had the measles.  Misery for all.

Sorry I am late to the party.

      Any time is fine.

      A great list!

I really liked Richard Halliburton, too.  I found a copy of his book with the Hannibal crossing many years ago and I was thrilled.

I have read all of your list except the Shy Stegasaurus...that sounds really neat.  My children's teachers read to them every day after lunch, too, and I think that is just wonderful.
