      or support some clearly wrong things somewhere along the line.  A good president is one who MOSTLY lives by the best standards of his time or moves the country forward.

      At that point, we were just starting the process of figuring out how far the commitment to free speech really went.  We're still working on that.

      So yeah, people can validly respect and admire a president who did some things wrong, even important things, in the late 18th century.  We're talking about human beings, not demi-gods, after all.
