  •  The President's record on bringing Change..... (4+ / 0-)

...even when he doesn't need an act of Congress to bring it forth, is not encouraging.

Just like the Clinton before him and the Clinton to come after him, he is a DLC style, New Democrat who will pursue a mostly Center-Right course of action on economics and law enforcement.

In the Fox News Christian Nation, public schools won't teach sex education and evolution; instead they'll have an NRA sponsored Shots for Tots: Gunz in Schoolz program.

pleased to learn how we early 21st century types yet again dodged the bullet and did not have to beat back an eco-terrorist president just as we were about to cross the threshold of total fossil dominance.*

That's assuming that Exxon-Mobil-Chevron Global Control hasn't entirely expunged mention of non-CEO presidents.

Of course, those damned methane filtration masks will make it hard to learn much of anything.

*What Mitch McConnell clearly aspires to.

    •  His action on this will certainly prove you (0+ / 0-)

      right or wrong.

If there is no accountability for those who authorized torture, we can no longer say that we are a nation of laws, not men.

have another DLC Clinton. Four wild horses, hell and high water, locusts, and existential climate change.

On the hope side. There are several things that are historically associated with, and considered necessary for  major, successful populist uprisings. First two are specifically America, third is world wide. New tech, more 'muchraking' (investigative) journalism due to demand, a general disappointment that change which a somewhat smaller but significant group had worked for, and been promised, did not happen.

Computers and high speed Internet widely in use, social media, cell phones, blogs, independent research, access to research, ideas on Internet, e-books, Obama. (Hoping '14 election will not be contributing to the disappointment.)

Years ago, MoveOn had a research paper on the site that explored the role of people I would call citizen activists - not what the author used IRRC. The role was what I had learned about studying Sociology. Individuals who inform themselves and share with their circles. They are generally seen as a go to person. Their role in spreading information by word of mouth is significant. While we are having a problem with misinformation being spread, there is more capacity for people to hear both and check facts. We also have better understanding of messaging, specifically how the mind receives and processes new information.

The application I had learned was post WWI there were significantly fewer of these people due to the soldiers who had died. That war was fought with a greater percent of the military coming from higher classes because of inheritance to the eldest son. Younger sons would go to military, teaching or religious careers.  Merchant class sons also had better education than most. The lack of those people watching Hitler and speaking up about what was going on was thought to have contributed to how quickly he rose to power.
