is what the headlines should read.

Since he was unable over the last few weeks to deflect the blame for the shit sandwich we call "Obamacare" on Sibelius for improper "implementation, it is no surprise he is retiring.

How is this good news for Dems, kos?

How will any Dem candidate NOT be tainted with the stench of Obamcare just as it kicks in next year?

    •  because (9+ / 0-)

There won't be a stench. It's far from perfect, and Baucus wrote a bad bill but it still does a lot of good things.

    •  Well (9+ / 0-)

Because Obamacare will be an extremely successful law, with some big hitches along the way like any such law. :)

    •  There's only one part of the law that's unpopular (1+ / 0-)

If you ask people about what's in there, the ONLY thing that gets net disapproval is the individual mandate.

No, it's not perfect, and there's a long way to go, but even Medicare and Social Security were far from perfect at first implementation.

There's built-in attack ads for anyone who wants to repeal it at this point:

      * X wants to take your college kids' insurance away.
      * X wants to let insurance companies reinstate lifetime limits.
      * X wants to let insurance companies deny you coverage for preexisting conditions.
      etc.
      etc.
      etc.

      I don't see a "stench of Obamacare."

      •  really? (0+ / 0-)

        * Obamacare is forcing employers to cut back workers to less than 30 hours
        * Obamacare is forcing employers to cut back workforces to less than 50 Employees
        * Obamacare jacks up your premiums by as much as 2 or 3 times if you are a young male (over 26) on an individual plan
        * Self-employed young business owners will be forced to insure themselves (the mandate) or face the penalty.  But premiums will likely double (or worse)  since high-deductible plans (which are tailor made for young healthy workers) will be banned under Obamacare.

But, I guess Dems don't give a shit about the younger vote next year?  Because the young workers - especially self-employed - are hardest hit.

And.. just because insurers can no longer deny coverage doesn't mean you will be able to find a plan in your state, nor does it mean you will be able to afford it - even with the subsidies.
