    Much like the word "liberal" has, I think.

    It may be as simple as the operative word being different...Democrat as opposed to Socialist.

    Social Democrats are a political party in Germany, or were, I believe, correct?

    Democratic Socialist may very well be ideologically different than Social Democrat.

    Admittedly, I'm unclear on that. Interesting, though. I'll be checking Wikipedia to see of I can find something out.

      political party. But that has no meaning for the US, if it would be used here. I guess "Social Democrats" as a word with independent meaning (not related to the German party) doesn't exist in the US, right?

        used in US as distinct from 'Democrats,' but that's just me.

        'Democratic Socialist,' I have heard though.
