I read all the Happy Hollisters - loved the moral messages tucked between the pages (don't take the largest piece of pie!).

But - I also read and enjoyed the Nancy Drew Mysteries. Of course, I began reading when I was barely three years old and had older siblings, so was probably exposed to them much earlier than you were. (Incidentally, at the age of 12, I was huddled in front of the stereo with a cup of coffee at night, listening to the Ellery Queen mystery radio series before I was able to order and pay for the magazine just a little later!)

Carolyn Keene was actually many different authors and - yes, it was obvious [to me] that some of "her" books were better than others. But I give a tip of the hat to the Nancy Drew series, because as a nerdy little five-year-old, I thought it would be wonderful to be a tall, pretty, blonde sleuth with a housekeeper (!) named Hannah and a nice boyfriend like Ned Nickerson!
