  •  What's sad? (11+ / 0-)

I saw this Tweet from this Tweeter, whose profile says

    editor in chief, guardian US
    New York · http://www.guardiannews.com
Which, if I'm not mistaken, is a reasonably regarded actual news organization. So... I respond...

    Then she says:

All of which was only about five minutes before I saw the first Tweet noting the Stock Market had dived on the faux news tweeted about explosions in the White House - because some asshat(s) had hacked the Twitter account of the Associated Press.

So it wasn't so much Twitter to blame - but the morons who didn't even stop for a moment to check and see if it was real or fake (it is only social media, after all, and many accounts have been hacked in recent months) before trading based on that Tweet.

Part and parcel of the public's willingness to believe just about anything if they hear or read it on the internet, from any source or none at all. It's part of why I loathe the damned 4th Estate which is failing the citizenry of this nation.

Also why I <3 Daily Kos and all of the talented and intelligent and fact-loving (and sharing) writers and commenters who grace these pages with wisdom and (by golly) actual #News. Day in and day out.

(fingers crossed that the complete embedded tweet-conversation is in the code...)

    •  Given the way the AP's been lately, I didn't (0+ / 0-)

question that the post was genuine.

I just assumed it was and that they'd pulled another story out of their collective arses.

      Again. Per usual.

Is it courageous to propose tax cuts but not identify a single tax expenditure to rein in? Is it courageous to target your deepest cuts on the poorest Americans, who vote in lower numbers and provide little in campaign contributions?

      •  Honestly, for a split second - just before I (0+ / 0-)

checked on Google News for an alert about a White House explosion report - I too had to think, "well, considering the rest of last week..." that maybe it could be true.

But of course, that split second passed as I saw nothing from any other source on Twitter or Google news (or MSNBC on television).

In addition, I follow hundreds of news reporters and news sites from around the world, on Twitter. When it's real I don't see a single Tweet from a single source, I see dozens in a matter of less than 30 seconds - just as I did last Monday the 15th, when the bombs exploded at the Marathon.
