  •  Increasing civility might be difficult. (6+ / 0-)

It's something which comes with the territory. There are some rules in place to help quell abuses, and those are - to a point - also subject to growth and adjustment, but I doubt we can maintain the effective vibe of the site if people are completely prevented from the occasional incivility.

To the extent of dKos being self-correcting, evolving and organic, yes - tho when the size gets beyond a certain point, the "noise" begins to encompass important elements that can't be discerned from background chatter.

Having something in place to help provide an additional review & retrieval system might help that and help the "organism" that we've become avoid stagnation and potential derailment onto too few issues, or too large a chunk of an issue to be able to effectively chip away at it.

    •  Here's my subsequent thoughts (as I was doing (3+ / 0-)

the dishes) to the idea of "tying" smaller issues to larger issues:

      There is only one issue.

We need jobs. This is something that (in spite of all the discussion recently ) that Pres. Obama understands. He understood it when he was running for the Senate, talking about the "jobless recovery" from the first Bush recesssion.

More specifically, we need to move forward on climate change/clean energy and a 21st century infrastructure.

This will be the equivalent of the Interstate Highway system, which created a whole new area for our economy to grow, which revolutionized our economy and our lives and helped build the biggest middle class the world has ever seen.

Of course, the gop is obstructing that, as we all know.
It is the "tie-in" that wraps up practically every other issue.
      climate change
      restoral of the middle class
      a sustainable form of capitalism
      cuts/eliminates the deficit/debt problem
takes the strain off the social safety net
empowers the poor, Native Americans, global poor,

Just about every problem is within range of a solution if we can tackle this big one.
Most of us here know that.

      The obstacles are two-fold:
      the gop
      the corporate media.

You can't make this stuff up.
