  •  Most were up to code.... Code wasn't the problem (0+ / 0-)

The problem was that the structures were not required to be able to withstand being covered by 5-8 ft of salt water.   We parkd our car 7 avenue blocks inland from the ocean, it drowned in 5 ft of water anyway.  Our apt building as well...our entire electric system was destroyed by salt water no one Ever expected to come that far land.

The damage was done by salt water... Salt water that never ever came up that far r that high before, not in my. 60 plus years on this earth....   The tunnel was filled with water...  No one ever expected that to happen.. Transformers were blown apart by salt water, homes were washed away by 17 foot tides.  What happened in the eastern sea board was due to the effects of. Global climate change, not lack of code compliance or refusal to institute regulations on builders.

He eastern seaboard is using federal monies to raise the damaged areas higher,  move electrical systems higher,  rebuild with SANDY in mind and rebuild barrier reefs etc....   The Eastern seaboard learned its lessons and seeks to try to correct the problems damaged areas suffered, still Texas politicians voted NO to sandy relief.  Texas seems to have learned nothing from the explosion...and is touting the same line of weak regulations as before.
