    The California Dept. of Transportation has determined that all political speech, whether it be signs or flags, will be taken down. And that's pretty much it. I mean, that's the punishment: they take down the sign. And if that's really the deal, then hey - fine by me...

    I've put up literally over 5,000 signs in California, and been stopped by police six times, and that with little other consequence than having to act sheepish when they asked me to take down the sign. So even if it is illegal, it beats the hell out of getting pepper-sprayed at a "legal" protest.

    When you put a sign up next to a freeway, people will read it until someone takes it down.
